About $1,000 has been raised, said Village Trustee Russ Ruzanski, who is part of the villages veterans committee.
As part of this years budget, the village has allocated $40,000 to help get the project off the ground. However, it will cost $150,000 for the first phase of the project, Ruzanski said.
The goal this year is to raise enough money to get started, Ruzanski said.
It will be a lot of work, a lot of shoe leather, Ruzanski said. Well try to get businesses involved, as well.
Ruzanski said presentations have been made to Rotary clubs and local banks about making contributions to the project. The committee also plans to promote the memorial at the villages outdoor concert series, junior eagle events, at the annual Rotary Ribfest and the Summer Sunset Festival.
Hopefully this summer were going to take a big divot out of that amount, Ruzanski said.
Ruzanski said the memorial will include a brick walking path around the Village Hall and a curved wall, with five granite pieces representing different branches of military service.
Its kind of in its infancy, but we want to move it along, and really go leaps and bounds this year if we can, Ruzanski said.
Committee members also plan to sell bricks and benches for people to memorialize specific veterans, Ruzanski said

Presently, the village has $61,000 collected toward the project, said Village Trustee Russ Ruzanski.
Castle Bank, which has set up an account for people to donate toward the project, plans to contribute up to $10,000 toward the project, in two installments.
Of that money, $40,000 has been committed by the village.
Ruzanski said the village is hoping to start work on the memorial at Village Hall between Labor Day and Veterans Day. A formal groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Veterans' Day.
The village needs $150,000 to do the first phase of the project, and between $275,000 and $300,000 in all to complete the project.
The memorial will include a brick walking path around the Village Hall and a curved wall, with five granite pieces representing different branches of military service.
Veterans memorial committee members also plan to sell bricks and benches for people to memorialize specific veterans, Ruzanski has said.
Ruzanski said that about a $1,000 has been raised through small donations collected at various locations, including at last year's Summer Sunset Festival.
"A little here, and a little there," Ruzanski said.
