Rudi Rainer, general manager of the Adam's Mark Hotel in Buffalo, said he is more concerned about 2010 than the current year.
He said group sales - which account for about 65 percent of the Adam's Mark business - have kept the hotel on par with last year's numbers. But Rainer doesn't anticipate a recovery for hotels until 2011. "We're the first ones to get hurt and the last ones to recover," Rainer said, "because corporations watch their travel budgets very closely and leisure people are careful how they spend their money."

For Rudi Ranier, his local hospitality career has come full circle. Ranier, a highly respected hospitality industry insider, has been named general manager of Adam's Mark Hotel in downtown Buffalo.Ranier had been the hotel's general manager for 12 years when the 486-room hotel was part of the Hilton operation and owned by San Francisco businessman Clement Chen."There are new owners here and a new vision and that got me very excited," Ranier said. Ranier has remained part of the local hospitality industry as part of an ownership group that built a Super 8 motel on Sheridan Drive in the Town of Tonawanda. Through mutual connections, Ranier was introduced to representatives from both Chartes and Kokua who had also reached out to him. "We talked and there was this natural connection," Ranier said.
