Ruby Paris, the chairman of the Diabetes Task Force provided me with the Risk Factor test when I had a chance to talk to her about the work the Diabetes Task Force is doing in Schuylkill
VISION: Tell us how you became involved with the Diabetes Task Force
: I've been involved 9 years, possibly 10.
: They tend- to be in the health profession or involved in the health profession.
: There are over 8,000 people with diabetes in Schuylkill County
and that number will only continue to grow.
Studies have shown a link between childhood obesity and Type 2 Diabetes, those numbers are going to climb.
VISION: What does the Task Force do?
: Mainly we're here to educate the public: to tell them the risk factors, that diabetes can be diagnosed with a simple blood test, that there is help right here in Schuylkill County
to manage your diabetes successfully.
If any group or organization wants us to come and talk about recognizing diabetes and diabetes risk factors they can call me at 621-5020.
We also have an annual Diabetes Forum in November.
VISION: And how has being a VISION partner helped you?
: They provide us technical support: advertising, managing our finances, providing a meeting place.
