The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) announced that Ruby J. Paris, RN has achieved Certified Diabetes Educator (CDEï¾®) status by successfully completing the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators. Candidates must meet rigorous credential and professional practice experience requirements to be eligible to take the examination. Achieving the CDE credential demonstrates that Paris possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for patients with diabetes. There are currently more than 14,000 diabetes educators who hold the CDE credential.
Paris serves as the Patient Education Coordinator for The Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic and previously served for many years as a Registered Nurse in the hospitals Pre-Admission Testing Department. She has been with the hospital for 33 years after having graduated from The Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing.
VISION Partner: Diabetes Task Force - Schuylkill Matters [cached]
Ruby Paris, the chairman of the Diabetes Task Force provided me with the Risk Factor test when I had a chance to talk to her about the work the Diabetes Task Force is doing in Schuylkill pencil1 County.
VISION: Tell us how you became involved with the Diabetes Task Force.
RUBY: I've been involved 9 years, possibly 10.
RUBY: They tend- to be in the health profession or involved in the health profession.
RUBY: There are over 8,000 people with diabetes in Schuylkill County and that number will only continue to grow. Studies have shown a link between childhood obesity and Type 2 Diabetes, those numbers are going to climb.
VISION: What does the Task Force do?
RUBY: Mainly we're here to educate the public: to tell them the risk factors, that diabetes can be diagnosed with a simple blood test, that there is help right here in Schuylkill County to manage your diabetes successfully. If any group or organization wants us to come and talk about recognizing diabetes and diabetes risk factors they can call me at 621-5020. We also have an annual Diabetes Forum in November.
VISION: And how has being a VISION partner helped you?
RUBY: They provide us technical support: advertising, managing our finances, providing a meeting place.
