says."Buying a home is their largest expense, and building a pool is the fun thing to do."
Of course, it helped that Roy
came of age around construction and pools.His
father, Roy Sr., started the Florida company in 1980.Roy
took over seven years ago."I've been working construction since I was about 7 or 8 years old," he
father's company focused primarily on home building, occasionally installing pools on the side - "a 15-pool-a-year hobby," he
transformed the company into a pool-building force that constructs nearly 170 pools a year, ranging from $20,000 to $160,000 each.
Roy's transformation parallels a change in customer buying trends as well."Years ago, it seemed that people were happy just to get a pool," he
says."Now they're not willing to let go of that last dollar without the perfect pool." He
feels poised to deliver just that, though he
shies away from submitting his
work for award consideration."I have a reputation for quality and accomplishment, but I'm not big on self-promotion," Roy
