Apologies It was announced that we had received 211 apologies, including those from our Treasurer, Roy Dalton, and former teachers Mr. Ted (Moggy) Mason, Mr. Stanisa Vlahovic, and Mr. John Swift, all of whom wished us well and hoped to be remembered to all those fortunate enough to be present.'Moggy' Mason sent us a very nice letter apologising for his absence, as did Stan Vlahovic, whose letter was particularly touching.
The most important items were the election and appointment of officers, these being the re-election of Graeme Collins as President, the election of Roy Dalton as Treasurer, the re-election of Bob Ashby as Academic Officer, with the office of Exhibitions Secretary remaining vacant.
The next office to be filled was that of Treasurer, and the President announced that Roy Dalton (1962), who had been appointed at our last AGM, wished to stand down due to pressure of work. Roy is an extremely busy person at the best of times, running his own medium-sized company, and is presently undertaking the difficult task of moving his business to larger premises. The President thanked Roy for undertaking the office for the last 12 months, and asked if anyone present wished to be considered for the office.

10. Roy Dalton - The Chandelier Ceremonial Switch-on (Attended by Press)
The Big Switch-On . . . thanks to Roy Dalton ('62)
It has become a custom to present the owners of the school with a cheque at our Reunion meetings as a means of supporting them with the overheads of maintaining the school building. This year will see a completely different approach to supporting the owners, thanks, in no small part, to the generosity of Roy Dalton ('62). Whilst in conversation with the owners, they mentioned that they are completely re-wiring the building, and that they wanted to install a light fitting above the short landing at the head of the dual staircase. I took the opportunity of offering, on behalf of the Association, a feature light fitting of our choice in keeping with the character of the building, this instead of presenting a cheque. I felt that our members would be happier in making a contribution in a form that they can actually see.
Roy, who owns West Midlands Lighting Ltd., a company which specialises in wholesaling and retailing light fittings, very generously offered to provide a chandelier fitting at below cost, and, following agreement on the design with the owners, the fitting, which has a retail value of £2,200.00, was supplied and is now fitted.

Treasurer (Roy Dalton for re-election) Academic Officer (Mr. T. H. W. (Bob) Ashby for re-election) Exhibitions Secretary (Vacant - Applications Invited)
Our Treasurer, Roy Dalton ('62) was treated to a surprise 60th. birthday party by his children at the Thistle Hotel, Birmingham on Saturday, the 17th. February.
Roy had no idea that a party was planned (he thought they were going on to a casino). He arrived at the hotel with his son and was shown into a darkened room where around 120 friends and relatives lay in wait. The barrage of flash photography as he entered made Roy think that he'd walked into a firing squad! A great night was had by all, especially Roy, who is clearly a very popular guy.
Roy went into electrical engineering after leaving MSA and subsequently formed his own company in 1972 - the party was also the 35th anniversary of his founding of the company. He developed and patented an energy-saving light fitting, which has given rise to the company name - Nowadays, Roy and his family have a sizeable operation including other electrical appliances which are marketed online.
