Roshan Muhammad Salih
was the last speaker at this conference.
He is a journalist and reporter currently the Head of News at Press TV- London.
spoke about the role of the media in the Islamic Awakening.
accepted that the media played a very important role in giving the Arab a voice at the beginning of this movement but that the same media outlets are now trying to manipulate them.
described how sophisticated broadcaster such as BBC
tend to show a non propagandistic face by allowing selected voices of dissent to be broadcasted, giving an illusion of impartiality while in reality follow a precise agenda and methodology.
described the work of the Ul-Jazeera network manipulative of Arabs opinions.
believes that the Ul-Jazeera network is now fully integrated in the American propaganda machine, a fact confirmed by the political friendly relation that exists between Qatar rulers and the American government.
explained that despite the fact that Western media companies are suffering from financial cuts and their production has been considerably effected in terms of content and depth, they still control the highway of information.
Discussing PressTV Mr Salih said that this is the only Muslim media channel that presented the Arabs uprisings as an Islamic Awakening for which it was heavily criticised by the big networks.
However the presence, now, of a visible Islamist component makes PressTV
early claim look rather prophetic.
also described the orchestrated ban by Ofcom against PressTV
a great loss for the network who had grown considerably over the last couple of years providing alternative news.
believes that PressTV
still lacks the sophistication of Western news networks and need to work more to build its credibility.
In general Mr Salih
believes that we need more Muslim professionals into media if we want to make any serious impact.
