Avola was born Aug. 11, 1917, in Havana, Ark., the daughter of Lee Roy and Rosetta Bailey Howard
.She grew up picking cotton on the family farm outside of Havana and graduated from Havana High School in 1936.
That same year she
moved with her
mother to Rupert, Idaho, where she
worked various jobs while attending business college. In 1966 she moved with her family to Ponca City and began working for the Travelers Motor Club, a job she held until her 80th birthday.She
held the title of top saleswoman for 20 of her
31 years with the company.She
was consistently in the Top Cat Club
sales and renewals.In 1997 she
moved to Tulsa. While in Ponca City she was an active member of First Baptist Church.
