Rosa Lovelace, an assistant principal at Lexington Middle School, called the event a wonderful thing as she ate at a table with a couple of new teachers. She talked about the many pressures of being a new teacher and how the event could help with some of those. "With all the stresses new teachers have," Lovelace said, "this eases those, providing one less thing for them to worry about."

Guillen Middle School Principal Rosa Lovelace said she strongly believes the early start has helped ease the worries among many sixth-grade students and parents. "Our main goal is to get them in here in a comfortable setting, where they're ready to learn," she said."At the end of their first day, we'll get them all together and answer any questions they might have."Lovelace said the early start gives sixth-graders confidence in a time when stress can be high."I won't say they're old pros at being in middle school," she said.

Seventh grade marks the beginning of middle school in the Gadsden school district, meaning students change classes and have block schedules for the first time, Principal Rosa Lovelace said.
The school was previously an elementary school and had "the smallest cafeteria in the district," Lovelace said. The expansion will allow Santa Teresa to better accommodate its middle school students, she said.
