Rapper and producer Ronny Jones has just signed a deal to produce and possibly record for Life Support Records, based in South Bend.He hopes to finish his senior year at IPFW while working here for the record label. Fort Wayne music producer and rapper Ronny Jones has been signed by Life Support Records, a label based in South Bend.Jones, 23, was on his lunch break Monday when he heard the good news. But he said the call didn't come as a surprise because he talked with the label Sunday, and they seemed impressed with his work.Though Jones was signed on as both a producer and an artist, he will begin as a producer and will have to produce four albums for other groups by the end of the year, he said.Jones said he plans to work as soon as possible with the group New Orleans' Finest, producing their music video in New Orleans in early July. The group's current single, "Hard Head Bounce," is playing on an Indianapolis radio station and in a few other markets, he said.Jones said he's "very happy" because others have been in the business longer than he has and haven't gotten signed. He became interested in music producing and recording in 2000 and started rapping two years ago.His band director at Snider High School, Kevin Klee, and his assistant band director, Dean Smekens, inspired him, he said.Jones is part of the local rap group Hard Hitters. He also has produced music for local artists, such as rap and jazz performer Aaron King.Jones said he was discovered after music samples he sent to another record company were passed on to Life Support. In addition to its South Bend office, the company has studio affiliates in Indianapolis, New Orleans and the Los Angeles area.Jones recently completed his junior year at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, where he studies English and music. He hopes to finish his degree at IPFW while pursuing a career in the music industry.
