Ronald Lugthart, Managing Director of Rotterdam World Gateway, has received the definitive customs permit and AEO certificate for RWG, handed over by Anneke van den Breemer, Regional Director of customs at the port of Rotterdam.
Lugthart said: "Due to the high degree of automation at RWG, the introduction of a 100% pre-announcement procedure for containers and cargo via Portbase and the implementation of simplified customs procedures, over 95% of the administrative process is now completely digitised.

Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb (r.) and RWG CEO Ronald Lugthart
The opening ceremony featured RWG top brass Ronald Lugthart (Managing Director) and Rob van Dijk, (Chairman of the RWG Board of Directors) together with Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, Port of Rotterdam Authority CEO Allard Castelein, and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of joint shareholder DP World. Lugthart acknowledged that the RWG is "now still testing live" and added that "achieving the maximum productivity on the basis of the systems as sold to us, will take another one or two years". RWG is currently handling one regular liner service, CMA CGM's western Europe - Mediterranean Victory Bridge, with 3,500 TEU ships requiring 1,500 moves per call. "In addition, we handle one G6 alliance Asia-Europe ship of the 14,000 to 16,000 TEU class in the weekend. These are combined Rotterdam calls, for which we currently perform 1,500 to a maximum 2,000 moves, in and out together, as the full terminal cycle is working" Lugthart said. The terminal's productivity record so far is 84 moves per hour with a three crane operation. Productivity is increasing, but the big question is what level it has to reach before G6 carriers transfer additional services. Lugthart emphasised that shareholder/carrier demands actually relate to stability and reliability more than a set number of moves per hour, about which more will be said in the September issue of WorldCargo News.

Ronald Lugthart, Managing Director of RWG: "With the delivery of these five cranes, RWG's terminal is more and more taking shape.
