Rich and Ron Hartzer celebrate a correct answer during the taping of their "Wheel of Fortune" segment.
Ron Hartzer and his son Rich Hartzer will appear on "Wheel of Fortune" at 6:30 p.m. Friday on WJHG-TV, Channel 7, and WTVY-TV, Channel 4 in Dothan, Ala. Ron is a historian with the Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency at Tyndall, and Rich teaches sixth-grade science at Jinks Middle School. They taped the segment for Family Fun Week on "Wheel of Fortune" at Sea World in Orlando in December. Both are longtime "Wheel of Fortune" fans. But "actually, Rich was the instigator" for their appearance, Ron said. There also was a written test, with five minutes to solve 16 word puzzles with blanks they had to fill in. "Rich had finished his," said Ron. But "it's been kind of fun," Ron said, "to have people come up to us and try to trick us" into spilling the details.

Father, son duo Ron and Rich Hartzer of Lynn Haven recently competed on the Wheel of Fortune show during "Family Fun Week.
Ron is a historian with the Air Force and his son, Rich is a teacher at Jinks Middle School. "We're standing up behind the wheel and all the colors and the lights and I look out and I can see Pat and Vanna standing behind the board just before they come out and it's like it just hit me then 'wow this is real and it's really happening' and then of course they get introduced and walk out and it was a lot of fun," said Ron Hartzer, Lynn Haven Resident.
