Ron Monsma has been teaching drawing and painting at Indiana University South Bend since 1997.
work has been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago
and recognized with numerous awards and solo exhibitions in Chicago, Indianapolis and Cincinnati.
is represented in many private and corporate collections throughout the United States and Europe.
In 2000 a number of his
works were showcased in the Chinese book Contemporary American Oil Painting published by Jilin Press
Ron's pastel work has appeared numerous times in other publications as well including The Pastel Journal, International Artist Magazine, Art News Magazine and The Artist's Magazine
In 2006 his
work appeared in Pure Color, the Best of Pastel published by Northlight Books
and in the book 20th Century Indiana Landscape Painters.
In 2001 Ron
received the Diane B. Bernhard Gold Medal Award for Excellence and was awarded the 2008 Jack Richeson Best of Show Award in the 9th Annual Pastel 100 competition sponsored by The Pastel Journal

Ron Monsma is Associate Professor of Drawing and Painting at Indiana University South Bend, where he nurtures the artistic talent and creative spirit of countless students.

Exhibit juror Ron Monsma, Associate Professor of Drawing & Painting, Indiana University, South Bend, selected 68 pieces (out of 132 entries) for the show and chose ten of the works to receive awards.
He stated, "Many of the winners stand out and, in my view, have a certain indefinable something, a mood maybe, or they simply present a striking image.

Ron Monsma has exhibited extensively with group and solo exhibitions in New York, Chicago, Indianapolis and Cincinnati.
Recent solo exhibitions include Realities an Exhibition of New Work at Miller Gallery in Cincinnati, OH and, as visiting artist, a retrospective of his work over the past 15 years at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI.
Two of his works were also included in the 2010 and 2012 Realism Biennials at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.
Ron's work has been featured in numerous national and international publications.
Recent articles include a feature in the April 2012 issue of the Artist's Magazine and inclusion in three books: The INDA 6 and INDA 9Drawing Annuals and 100 Artists of the Midwest, published by Schiffer books.
In 2008 he received ThePastel Journal's Best of Show Award in the Pastel 100 Competition.
Ron is Associate Professor of Drawing and Painting at Indiana University South Bend and is represented by Miller Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
