JAMES RON FAULKENBERRY
The 2002 SCAHPERD Honor Award is being given to Dr. James Ron Faulkenberry
meritorious service to allied fields and contributions to the profession of South Carolina Alliance of Health
, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education (1969), a Masters Degree in Health and Physical Education (1973), and an Ed.D in Health Education (1979) from the University of South Carolina.In the early 1970's he worked as a teacher, coach and health educator.In 1974 he joined the faculty of Francis Marion University and now holds the title of Professor of Health Education and Coordinator of Health Programs. Dr. Faulkenberry
works daily to facilitate the advancement of health and physical education in his
role as professor, and with his
work with developing and improving health instruction and curriculum.Through presentations all over the state of South Carolina, as well at national meetings, Dr. James Ron Faulkenberry
has increased awareness of health related issues.He
has contributed to the literature in the field of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance through numerous journal articles such as the Journal of South Carolina Medical Association
, the Journal of School Health
, and the South Carolina Journal of Health
, Physical Education, and Recreation, and Dance.Professionally, he has been a member of SCAHPERD since 1968 and is also a member of AAHPERD, SCAAHE, ASHA, PSTA and is a Certified Health Education Specialist.He presently holds the title of Member at Large for SCAAHE.Dr. Faulkenberry serves on the local Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society.He chairs the Governors Primary Prevention Task Force, is a member of the Advisory Group, Costal Plains Basin Group on Health; and a member of the School Health Instruction and Curriculum Council.He is also a consultant for the Test Item Writers and Reviewers, ETS, in Atlanta Georgia.Dr. Faulkenberry
was given the Outstanding Service Award from the South Carolina Department of Education
and State Board
in developing and his
advocacy to obtain approval for the SC Health and Safety Education Curriculum Standards.In 1994 and 2000 he
was recognized by SCAAHE
