Romel Saulog Lacson, MPH
Founder Romel is the founder and director of the Amaya-Lacson Tuberculosis Photovoice Project. Three months after the untimely deaths of his wife Claudia Lacson and their unborn child in July 2004 to TB Meningitis, Romel attended the 35th Conference of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IUATLD), where he met people just like him who were united in the fight against TB. By November 2004, the Amaya-Lacson TB Photovoice Project was born. Romel, who had worked in the National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for seven years, resigned in January 2005 to devote 100% of his time and attention to fighting tuberculosis.

Romel Lacson, founder of the Amaya-Lacson TB Photovoice Project, was personally affected by the disease, losing both his wife Claudia Amaya and their newborn daughter Emma to tuberculosis meningitis in 2004.
"They have a basic foundation for it but depending on the mission of the particular organization and on the coordinator who is implementing and facilitating it, it really takes a character of its own," Lacson says.
