Rohin Khemani is a Canadian-born percussionist and composer based in New York City.
principal instruments are the drum set, tabla and a collection of percussion and found objects from around the world.
Starting his path in music as a classically trained violinist, Rohin performed recitals and in orchestras from the age of six years old.
On a family trip to London when he
was thirteen, he
had the chance to hear the legendary drummer Billy Cobham perform at the Jazz Café in Camden Town.
began to explore the recordings of The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Shakti, and other bands from the first wave of Indo-jazz; leading him into the world of percussion and improvised music.
Rohin graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston where he studied privately with Kenwood Dennard amongst other esteemed faculty.
then traveled extensively between the United States, Japan and India before moving to New York to immerse himself in the creative music scene and pursue graduate work at The Manhattan School of Music
Rohin is a regular member of several bands/projects (Surface to Air, Sacha Silva Ensemble, Noah Jarrett's Knu Gmoon) and appears on recordings by these artists and others across many genres.
