Dr. Rohan K. Gunaratna
Dr. Rohan Gunaratna is a Senior Consultant with Sea-Change Partners and Head of the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR) at Singapore's Institute of Defence And Strategic Studies, where he is also Associate Professor.
He is a terrorism specialist with 20 years of operational, policy and academic experience in counter terrorism in Asia (including Central Asia), Middle East, Latin America, Africa, Western Europe, and in North America.
He is Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence, University of St Andrews, Scotland and an Honorary Fellow at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism Policy in Israel.
Previously, he was Principal Investigator, Terrorism Escalation Project, UN Terrorism Prevention Branch; Co-Director, UN University Project on Managing Contemporary Insurgencies, and, Principal Investigator, Terrorist Information Operations Project, DERA, Ministry of Defence, UK.
He is principal expert on Al Qaeda for the Crown Prosecution Service and a consultant on terrorist organizations to UK police forces.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts of the UK.
is author of eight books including the US national bestseller Inside Al Qaeda: Global Network of Terror (New York, Columbia University Press
, 2002); Jane's counter-terrorism manual (2002); and a forthcoming book Global Terror: Unearthing Support Networks that Allow Terror to Survive and Succeed (New York University Press, 2002).
He has a MA from Notre Dame University and a PhD from University of St. Andrews in Scotland, UK.
