Roger Ware, Jr. '82
President/CEO of Genesee General
When Roger Ware
transferred to WCU
as a criminal justice student in the fall of 1980, he
couldn't imagine the success he'd later have in the property casualty insurance industry. Thirty-one years later, as the President and CEO of Genesee
reflects upon his
experience at West Chester University
and how it prepared him for success.
hen asked what comes to mind when he
hears the words "West Chester University
", Roger comments, "excellence and putting students first".
Roger entered the University, thinking he'd earn his degree in criminal justice and continue onto law school, eventually entering the business world. It wasn't until he landed an internship at the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company as an underwriter trainee,
began to understand and take a liking to the insurance industry.
When asked what his
fondest memory of the University is, Roger
states "the support I received my senior year from my professors relative to my senior internship.
I was a Criminal Justice major but soon realized I wanted to enter the business world.
I was hired as an underwriter trainee at Fireman's Fund Insurance Company
and both the department head and my professors worked with me to tie in my new career path with my current studies. The support I received was exceptional."
now makes it a point to thank West Chester University
for that solid foundation for success.
A generous donor to the College of Business and Public Affairs Campaign to build a Business and Public Affairs Center
recognizes the impact each alumnus can make. Whether supporting the annual fund, student scholarships or building campaigns, each alumnus has an opportunity to contribute to the continued success of the University. He
reflects upon why he
gives back to WCU
has the ability to become nationally and internationally recognized for outstanding students and academic programs.
However, with state funding becoming more restrictive and the cost of education raising for future generations it is critical that WCU
Alumni give back."
