Roger Trull
Roger Trull has been an integral and increasingly important part of the fabric of McMaster University for over 20 years. He was President of Whidden Hall from 1976-78, Chair of the Inter-Residence Council in 1977-78, and President of the McMaster Students Union 1978-79. In 1979, the year of his graduation with an Honours B.A., he earned the Honour M. Award, McMaster's highest award for extracurricular involvement. Today he is Vice-President, University Advancement, a position he has held since 1994. Roger's contributions to McMaster's growth have been remarkable. He manages five distinct but coordinated areas within University Advancement, and this integrated model is regarded as a benchmark within his profession. He has led the development of the Advancement area from a staff of 33 to 75 full-time, and expanded the operating budget from $2.1 million to $5.2 million. He and his team surpassed the $100 million goal of the Changing Tomorrow Today Campaign by 28%, and 8 months ahead of schedule. During his time at McMaster revenues from gifts and pledges have risen from $7 million to $43.5 million. He played a central role in the acquisition of a gift of $105 million from Michael G. DeGroote, the largest cash gift in Canadian history. He was instrumental in enhancing the visibility and image of the University through the local and national media via the Daily News website and other forms of upgraded technology. Under his leadership, the annual alumni events schedule has increased from 25 to over 100 and the number of alumni volunteers has doubled. Roger's list of offices held, internally and externally, is a long and diverse one, much too long to record here. He holds, or has held, top positions with the McMaster Foundation, Friends of McMaster in the U.S., the McMaster Hong Kong Foundation, the President's Advisory Committee on Community Relations, Hillfield-Strathallan College, Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (Ontario's Lifetime Achievement Award), the Canadian Club (local and national) and the Hamilton 2010 Commonwealth Games Bid Corporation. Dr. Peter George, McMaster's President regards Roger as Canada's top advancement professional, and sees him as "a man who has accomplished great things while making friends, not enemies." YLC is honoured to have the counsel of Roger Trull in the development of the YLC Fund Development Cabinet.
