Lizzie Chapel's Evangelism/Outreach Coordinator, Reverend Rodney Lockett, invited me in to eat during the Georgia Baptist Ministers Convention. Not only did he feed me, he made me sit down right there in the fellowship hall to eat (in the same room with about 200 Baptist preachers). Although I had enough sense to be embarrassed (I was wearing short shorts and a tube top), Rev. Lockett didn't seem to notice. After I had gotten my fill, he asked one of the nice ladies who cooked to fix me a to-go plate for my friends and after I left the church that day, I became very popular on the street for about 5 minutes.
Rev. Lockett, sometimes alone and sometimes accompanied by other church members, would often walk the streets, trying to talk to us and pray with us. I would usually watch from afar, but once, I sat down and listened during a Sunday morning street corner sermon. I don't know how I got lucky enough to catch the attention of this amazing man of God, but I did. Soon, he would look for me when he was out on the street. Other addicts would say, "Rev. Lockett's looking for you," or I would see him down the street and I would try to quickly walk the other way.

Someone knocked on the door and I said, "Come on in." I just figured it was one of the other addicts who had been standing around, but it wasn't - it was Rev. Lockett! I told him I was not getting up until I had smoked that rock I had just paid $20 for and if he was going to stand there, I would smoke it right in front of him. He merely crossed his arms, leaned against the wall, and said, "Go ahead. So I did. As soon as I hit the rock, Rev. Lockett leaned out the door and said, "Someone's here looking for you.

Then, because I was high and pretty much drunk, I proceeded to bless out Mr. Dennard and Rev. Lockett all the way to Detox (boy, was I stupid in my active addiction!)

When the court did order visitation every other Saturday, Rev. Lockett kicked in to help again. Without a car, I couldn't even go to Byron
Georgia (20 miles away) to pick up my son. Rev. Lockett picked me up every other Saturday for months and took me to get him and Mr. Dennard or Rev. Lockett would take him back that evening. Rev.
