"There is no firm plan for the property; its acreage would allow for a future school site or district services, and the location couldn't be better," NISD Superintendent Dr. Rodney Hutto said. "Nacogdoches has been growing north. We expect that pattern to continue and hope to anticipate the needs of our students and parents."

Hutto added that if the property ends up not meeting the needs of the district, officials are confident that, because of the acreage and prime location, they would be able to sell the property.

Dr. Rodney Hutto, Nacogdoches ISD superintendent, spent the first day of school visiting each district campus, and what he saw was "beyond expectation."

"It was a remarkable beginning of a new year," he said.
Hutto said he visited Nacogdoches High School Monday morning, and was "very impressed with the staff, the faculty and the kids."
"(There were) teachers standing out giving directions to (students), and administrators and teachers meeting the buses," he said."Then the bells rang and everybody disappeared.Everybody seemed to know where to go.It was well-orchestrated, well done."
Hutto then visited the middle schools.
"It seemed like everybody marched in and did what they were supposed to do," he said."Everybody seemed to be delighted the kids were back. The kids seemed to be glad to be back."
While visiting the elementary schools, Hutto said he only saw one pre-kindergarten student crying.
"He started in the morning and was still crying at about 11 a.m., but he had run out of water," Hutto said.
it is good to know Hutto was out in the district that is Great. maybe the NISD CFO should have tagged along to "know what is in the district"

Meeting in regular session, trustees agreed to remove the policy from the consent items under the recommendation of NISD Superintendent Dr. Rodney Hutto.

Hutto stated prior to the meeting that the policy required by House Bill 3678 is not currently written in a clear cut manner, and appears to be causing controversy across the state.
"We're going to put it on hold for right now," he said.

Dr. Rodney Hutto, Nacogdoches ISD superintendent, said he was pleased with the districtwide TAKS reading scores.

"We've done well in some of the areas," Hutto said."Our reading districtwide is doing very well. Our writing is in pretty fair shape.Social studies is in pretty fair shape."
Hutto said both the mathematics and science areas need improvement.
"We had two campuses (Nacogdoches High School and Fredonia Elementary School) in which the scores did not meet the state requirement," Hutto said."Had they not been granted the state exception rule, then they would have been low performing campuses, and both of those areas were in mathematics. From the scores standpoint, they were academically unacceptable this year, but because of this rule of exception by TEA, they got (excused) on it."
Hutto said another area that will have to be watched "very carefully" is the economically disadvantaged area.
"They are also uncomfortably close to not being acceptable," he said."But there are some good things going on.We have some wonderful people who are coming in to help us with this, and we have changes at some of the campuses that will enhance the programs."
One of those changes will be "every day math" lessons at the elementary level, Hutto said.
"We have work to do," he said.
