Judge Roderick Kennedy retired from the New Mexico Court of Appeals in 2016. He served as a designated judge at all court levels in New Mexico, and was a judge pro tem for the Jicarilla Apache Nation in Dulce, NM. In his practice, Judge Kennedy tried hundreds of cases as a prosecuting attorney and trial attorney doing general litigation and criminal defense. He was the first Chair of Bernalillo County's DWI Planning Council and helped in the creation of a $2.5 million alcohol treatment center at the Bernalillo County Jail, an early model for Drug Court in Albuquerque. As he is known for his expertise in the interface between law and science, the Forensic Science Society (UK) awarded him its J. B. Firth Memorial Lecture and Medal. Judge Kennedy is a Fellow in the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and served on their ethics committee. .

JUDGE RODERICK KENNEDYNew Mexico Court of AppealsJudge Roderick Kennedy was first elected to the bench in 1988, serving on Albuquerque's Metropolitan Court for eleven years until his merit selection and appointment to the Court of Appeals in 1999, and again in 2001.He has also been a judge pro tem for the Jicarilla Apache Nation in Dulce, NM. In his practice, Judge Kennedy tried hundreds of cases as a prosecuting attorney and trial attorney doing general litigation.He has been selected for listing in Who's Who in American Law, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.At the Metropolitan Court, Judge Kennedy handled more than 60,000 cases, both civil and criminal.He served as Metro Court's presiding civil and criminal judge.Judge Kennedy represented Metro Court on Bernalillo County's DWI Planning Council, serving as its first chair.He helped lead the creation of a $2.5 million treatment center at the Bernalillo County Jail, and the intensive pretrial supervision program that formed an early model for what is now Drug Court in Albuquerque.Judge Kennedy is internationally known for his expertise in the interface between law and science, and is a published author and lecturer on the subject.Last Year, Judge Kennedy and his former clerk Tiffany Sanchez published an article on the US legal system in Elsevier Publishers' new Medical-Legal Encyclopedia.In 1995 Judge Kennedy presented papers at the International Conference on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety in Australia.Judge Kennedy is a Fellow in the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and an Associate Member of the International Council on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety.He has served as Co-chair of the American Bar Association's Conference of State Trial Judges' Ethics Committee, and been a faculty member for programs put on at the National Judicial College.Rod Kennedy has been active with charities and service organizations in Albuquerque, serving as a director and officer of the New Mexico Zoological Society and Share Your Care, Inc., which is a day-care center for disabled adults and elderly.He was also a board member for the New Mexico Association for People Living with AIDS.Rod Kennedy is an Eagle Scout and former Ranger at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM.Rod is married to artist, and Montessori teacher Phyllis Kennedy.
