Dr. Robin F. Muir is a licensed psychologist in the Wheeling area. With a doctorate in psychology from the State University of New York at Albany, Muir chose psychology out of a desire to help people."Psychology was not my first career.I didn't know much about it, but I chose it because I wanted to help people," she expressed. She already had earned a business degree and had an insurance major before she found the social sciences. Muir also has taught at Wheeling Jesuit University and West Liberty State College for short periods of time. But, psychology is not always an upbeat career.Muir explained that her least favorite part of her practice is "seeing all the hurt and seeing what people do to each other."There always are jobs, but they might not always be the ones you want most, Muir explained. While the smallness of the area might mean it sometimes is hard to go to social functions, because "I ran into clients and it [can be] awkward," she concluded her work always is for the client. It might not be particularly fun.Actually, she said it takes a lot of courage to do the job.To anyone interested in her line of work, Dr. Muir offers some suggestions.Muir cautioned that you look carefully into a state's laws for licensure. As Muir concluded, her love of her career was evident.
