Our new Director of Child and Family Ministries, Robin Kurth, is originally from Minnesota, so I thought we would begin today remembering some other folks from Minnesota: Lena and Olie.
It seems that Lena and Olie
were celebrating forty years of marriage.
In the midst of her
preparations, something occurred to Lena that troubled her
went and found Olie
began, ÒI canÕt recall when in the last forty years of marriage that youÕve told me that you love me. Do you love me, Olie?Ó
thought a moment.
Then, being a man from the northern Midwest, he
thought some more.
: ÒLena, on the day we were married, I told you that I loved you.
This weekend, we install Robin Kurth
We made a choice for life-we had some discussions earlier in the year on how to allocate our resources best for ministry.
We decided that ministering to children and their families is a core value in our ministry.
We made a choice when we followed GodÕs leading to extend the call to her
made a choice for life as she
heard GodÕs call in our call and accepted.
As we install Robin
, promises will be made.
and Lena no doubt made promises, too.
will promise that she
holds the Bible to be the Word of God and that she
will be about the task of connecting children and their families through this Word of God to Jesus.
will promise to partner in JesusÕ name with us to help our children grow in faith.
We will promise to support her
with our prayers and our resources.
We will promise-those of us who have children-to bring those children and families into conversation with her
so we can grow together in faith.
