ALPINE - Former faculty member and Alumni Association director Robie Golden of Alpine and Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter will receive Sul Ross State University Distinguished Alumni Awards during Homecoming 2007.Golden also taught at Fort Davis ISD and now is a partner in a specialized construction company.She first enrolled at Sul Ross in 1970 while her husband was in the Navy.Both returned as students three years later."From my very first day on the Sul Ross campus, I knew that I would never be told ‘you can't achieve that,'" Robie Golden said."The atmosphere was one of caring, concerned and interested people, eager to help students achieve any and all of their desired goals. "I never felt overwhelmed or discouraged," she said."There was always someone interested in helping me with whatever problem I encountered."While at Sul Ross, Golden received the Outstanding Teacher Award.She later served as grand marshal of the Sul Ross Homecoming parade. She has been active in a host of community and "It is a constant joy in my life to know that I was able to make mathematics special to so many students during my tenure as a teacher at Sul Ross," Golden said.
