Robert Stout, Director, Compliance & Ethics- Western Hemisphere, BP plc
Robert L. (Bob) Stout, Jr. has regional responsibility for BP's
overall compliance programme in the Western Hemisphere, global responsibility for HR compliance, and sits on the global leadership team of BP's
Group Compliance & Ethics (GC&E) function.Based in Chicago, Bob
is responsible for building the fully-dedicated Western Hemisphere compliance team overseeing the compliance and ethics activities of the region, including developing the framework for communicating BP's
new Code of Conduct to its 45,000 employees in the Americas and the Caribbean.His
specific responsibilities have included leading compliance risk assessments and planning workshops with retail and refining businesses in the US and Australia; developing global guidelines and training programmes for compliance-related investigations; monitoring and overseeing internal and external investigations of HR and other compliance matters. Before taking his current role in April 2004, Bob served for six months as an executive assistant and senior strategy advisor to BP's GC&E Officer at BP's global headquarters in St. James's Square, London.
In this role, he
was responsible for helping establish and build the management infrastructure and staffing for a function that grew from a handful of employees at its inception in late 2003 to a still-growing function with upwards of 40+ full-time employees today. Before joining GC&E, Bob served in a variety of management and senior attorney roles in BP's Legal Department, having joined Amoco's Law Department in 1992.Prior to moving in-house, Bob served as an associate and equity partner in the Litigation department of Latham & Watkins' Chicago office.Bob received his J.D. in 1984 from Northwestern University School of Law, where he graduated Order of the Coif and was Articles & Book Review Editor for the Law Review, and served from 1984-85 as a Law Clerk to the Hon. Joel M. Flaum of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.
