While Vandemere and Arapahoe are seeking commissioners' designation, Olympia Fire Chief Robert Mills said his volunteers chose a vote of the district's eligible property owners. It is on the May 2 primary ballot after volunteers got the necessary 35 percent of residents' support via petition.Mills said only four residents contacted failed to sign the petition.
Those seeking commissioners to establish a district will have to go before a public hearing, which commissioners said earlier this month would be held on separate nights â€" possibly in May.A 30-day public notice period is required beforehand.
Olympia's station dates to 1974, with four vehicles in a building designed to house two trucks.Like the other departments, Mills said Olympia's equipment is old â€" including two 30-year-old pumpers and a 1979 tanker.
