Lillene Fifield and Robert Krasnow to receive Association's Third Annual Community Service Award on Sunday, April 7Los Angeles, CA, April 5, 2002,The Lesbian and Gay Psychotherapy Association of Southern California will honor Lillene Fifield, L.C.S.W., and Robert Krasnow, M.D., for their dedication to improving the quality of life for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people throughout Southern California.
...Dr. Robert W. Krasnow also has a long history of gay and lesbian activism and in 1975 became the first psychiatrist to provide clinical services at the L.A. Gay , Lesbian Center.He served as psychiatric consultant to the Gay , Lesbian Center's counseling department for many years, served on the Center board of directors for two years, and instituted an internship program for LA County/USC psychiatric residents.Dr. Krasnow co-founded AIDS Project Los Angeles's "Buddy Program", served as psychosocial co-chairman and taught "Buddies-in-training" a course on death and dying.He
is author of the "Death and Dying" chapter in the APLA Self-Care Manual.Dr. Krasnow has received APLA's "Friend in Deed" award, the Kira Foundation's "Unsung Hero" award and the "Golden Apple" (best teacher) award from the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.Dr. Krasnow's
teaching career has included a seminar on homosexuality for psychiatric residents of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
and courses on death and dying and hospice fundamentals for UCLA medical students.He
has also supervised psychiatric residents at Cedars-Sinai and the VA Wadsworth Medical Center
.Dr. Krasnow received his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine in 1968 and was certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in February 1977.Dr. Krasnow
private practice in Los Angeles in 1975.He served for eight years as assistant director and director of the palliative treatment program (hospice) at the VA Wadsworth Medical Center and has worked part-time at the Hillview Mental Health Center, the San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center and AIDS Healthcare Foundation.He
currently divides his
time between his
private practice and the L.A. Gay
, Lesbian Center's
mental health clinic.
