Marshfield High School Principal Robert Keuther sent about 20 seniors home Friday morning, because, he said, they had left school the grounds the previous day without permission.
He said the students left school at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, shortly after about 75 seniors marched through the building's hallways, chanting, "Seniors, seniors!" Keuther said the march was a disruptive senior prank that created an unsafe environment for students and staff members. Many students said the march, or "parade," is an annual tradition - a way for seniors to celebrate their final days of high school. The suspended seniors said they did not voluntarily leave school Thursday; they were told by school faculty members, including Keuther himself. Keuther could not be reached for comment Monday. On Friday, he said the suspended seniors will not be forced to miss their June 2 graduation ceremony.
