"It's gotta be the most important work the Church is doing," said Father Robert Amey, the pastor of St. Catherine Laboure´, addressing about 50 people who attended the Oct. 14 reception after the 10:30 a.m. Mass. By "encouraging people to be open to life," he said, one "can't get closer to God's work." Father Amey called the Reinkes' volunteer work "not only continuous and dedicated but divinely inspired." During his homily at the Mass, associate pastor Father Thomas Morrow recounted the story of one suffering woman in her late 20s who received help through the parish's Gabriel Project. After she told her husband that she was pregnant with their third child and refused to have an abortion, he left her, according to Father Morrow. The Gabriel Project gave her a bassinet for her baby, as well as food, prenatal medicine and prescriptions. An "angel helper" from the parish's program spent time with her during her pregnancy and accompanied her when she gave birth to her child, Father Morrow said.
