That's how the assistant superintendent of the Montgomery County Schools, Rick Mattox, described what he witnessed Monday during a school safety seminar in Richmond.Mattox was among administrators from 32 school districts who watched a demonstration by school safety expert Michael Dorn.Mattox says there is one school resource officer (sworn law enforcement officer, with specialized training, assigned to a school) in Montgomery County.The SRO covers all six of the district's schools explained Mattox."Our needs are met," said Mattox.

But we weren't progressing at the rate we thought we should be progressing," said Rick Mattox, assistant superintendent.We also feel that we didn't have a clear plan for those people," Mattox said.After looking at nearby districts and some of the top districts in the state, Montgomery County found it had the programs and personnel in place, but there not a high level of correlation between staffing and test scores."We needed to make sure these people and programs were aligned to improve test scores," he said."The way to do that is use this plan to identify students at risk and focus the services in our districts to solving the problem," Mattox said.
