Richard A. Watson
SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI. - Richard Allen Watson, age 77, of Sands Township, entered eternal life Monday, February 29, 2016, at his home, in the loving, comforting care of his family.
Born July 3, 1938, in Petoskey, a son of Glenn and Elizabeth (Montgomery) Watson, Richard
was raised in Petoskey and graduated from high school there.
Richard served in the US Army from 1959 to 1962 and again from 1963 until his honorable discharge in 1966.
Returning home, he enrolled in college, attending both Ferris State University and Northern Michigan University.
On September 19, 2003, Richard
married Elvira Binalangbang in the Philippines and together the couple made their home in Sands Township in 2005.
was employed in newspaper distribution for the Detroit Free Press
, traveling a route from the Marquette area to the Copper Country.
was a very quiet, very caring man, who loved nature and enjoyed the simple things abound him, like listening to rain.
enjoyed fishing, camping, yard work and working the land, and had a passion for restoring his
antique Model A. He
enjoyed watching movies, had a vast DVD collection, and was a huge fan of James Bond movies.
Richard was a member of the Model A Club, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380 where he served on the board of directors and as chaplain, and regularly attended the First Baptist Church in Marquette.
is survived by his
wife, Elvira Watson and daughter, Elva Binalangbang of Sands Township; daughters, Lillian and Cindy; a son, Fred; six grandchildren; two sisters and four brothers.
