" Really what we're looking to do is create new interests for the existing hotels - put all the eggs in one basket, " said MVB president Richard Tomanek, general manager of Embassy Suites in Marlborough.
Yeager introduced the panel of guest speakers saying, " Hopefully this will be not only the first, but the first annual tourist bureau gathering." The MVB
, a non-profit organization in its third year of operation, has just merged with Westborough, formerly a member of the Corridor 9 Chamber of Commerce. The expansion allowed Marlborough
to secure a $150,000 grant from the Massachusetts Department of Tourism
(MDT) because of its size.
" Right now, " said Tomanek
, " we are just in the process of bringing Westborough up to speed. We're also working with the mayor to become more structured." Tomanek
went on to discuss the newly created MVB visitors' guide. The attractive five-piece guide includes information about dining, lodging, sightseeing and shopping in Marlborough
Stressing the importance of the tourism industry, Tomanek
pointed out that it accounts for 5 percent of the town budget.Along with increasing the town's revenue, tourism also helps the community directly.
" The tourism industry donated $500,000 to charities last year " said Tomanek
