Ric Parsons serves as President and Artistic Director at Parsons Pipe Organ Builders. He began his pipe organ career at a very early age and is a fourth generation organ builder. After receiving degrees in electronic and biomedical engineering technologies in 1979, he and his brother Calvin purchased the firm established by their grandfather in 1921. Ric has overseen the design and execution of each of the firm's instruments. This has included a broad range of projects, ranging from new mechanical-action organs, to historically based restorations. In addition to 43 years of practical experience, Ric has travelled extensively throughout the US as well as to Italy and France to visit significant instruments.

Ric is a colleague member of the American Institute of Organbuilders (AIO) where he has lectured on two occasions as part of their annual educational conferences. He is a current board member and has served as Vice President, and as Secretary of the Institute. In addition, Ric is the President of the Associated Pipe Organ Builders of America (APOBA) and has held the office of Vice President. Ric is also a contributor to the Journal of American Organbuilding and The American Organist.
Ric is married with three children, two of whom work in the family business, and fills much of his free time with his three grandchildren. He enjoys volunteering at his church and working endless hours on the business.

Richard Parsons, president of the Associated Pipe Organ Builders of America, said that while fewer organs are being built nationally, the industry is doing well.

Now in his 60s, Parsons said he recalled what old-timers in the business once told him: "There's a pendulum. There's a classical sound people want, and then it swings in the other direction."
There are "still bands in church, but people want tradition, too," said Parsons. "Right now we are seeing a swing."

Organ Renovation Campaign 2011

For $298,200 Parsons will perform a thorough repair and renovation of our organ.

...
The genesis of the Parsons organ firm was in the 19th century; it continues today under the direction of Ric Parsons, a fourth-generation organ builder. He is a "colleague" of the American Institute of Organbuilders and Vice President of both AIO and the Association of Pipe Organ Builders of America. The Parsons firm is highly regarded for their new organs and historically based restorations. When Doug contacted churches that had contracted with Parsons for their organ projects, the firm was praised for its attention both to musical details and to the details of conducting reliable and honest business with churches.
...
Mr. Parsons and the firm's tonal director, Duane Prill, conducted a very thorough examination of the GPPC organ, noting its strengths and weaknesses.
...
Parsons will replace the electric/electronic control system, which is unreliable, has functional gaps, and is developing shorts.
...
The work will begin when our fundraising is complete and when Parsons can accommodate the work, given other instruments they are building or renovating.
...
If we cannot raise the entire amount, we will work with Parsons to eliminate some aspects of the renovation plan, still seeking to accomplish as much necessary work as possible.
