Digital media, predicts Richard Halmarick, CEO of Carat South Asia, will change the course of advertising in the near future.

Aegis Media chief executive officer (Australasia and Asean) Richard Halmarick says Carat's role as a media strategy specialist is to help its clients to be more pro-active in their advertising approach, and Malaysia is one country where the company sees plenty of potential for advertising improvement.

He says Malaysia has the right balance of traditional and digital media and it is the jewel of Asia Pacific.
"Media specialists today play a different role, having evolved from media buyers into partners in the marketing communication industry, and this will be significant as marketing moves from building awareness to building relationships," Halmarick says.
He adds that buying advertising space is not just about buying space anymore but is now focusing on the intangibles such as engaging the emotions of the customers.
He notes that the group organises regular training to keep its team abreast with what is happening in the industry.
Halmarick believes that digital media will account for 30% of the group's media consumption by 2010, with 60% on traditional media and the balance on diversified media.
He says a recent study showed that 80% of the worldwide media consumption would be on digital media by 2020.
