MIDDLEBURG - Minority Commissioner Richard Bickhart of Snyder County was the only commissioner to vote in favor of helping Boscov's.
Bickhart says he was concerned that if they didn't vote in favor of the plan, the governor may look poorly at Snyder County and not help them with funding for important projects. Bickhart adds that if Boscov's gets to the point where they have to close stores due to financial constraints, it may be bad for our area. He says if they choose to close the Snyder County store, it will be a loss of approximately 200 jobs and $3.5 million in Snyder County revenue. Bickhart says the Boscov's project is going to go through anyways, whether Snyder County agreed to it or not.

MIDDLEBURG - Snyder County Democratic Minority Commissioner Richard 'Bud' Bickhart has announced his resignation.
At 65-year-old, Bickhart says he feels it's time to relax, spend time with family and maybe play some golf. Bickhart informed his fellow commissioners of his decision Friday, and says they were surprised by the announcement. Bickhart says he is proud of the accomplishments made over the six years that he has been a commissioner, including the renovation of the CareerLink building and updating of the 911 center, which Bickhart says is now one of the best in the state.

Commissioner Richard Bickhart is running numbers prior to a prison board work session to determine exactly how much they receive from other counties to house their inmates.
Bickhart says the prison board is projecting about a $300,000 shortfall on revenues, so raising the fee may be necessary. He says they now charge $56.00 a day, but believes the rate may need to rise to between $60-$65.00 or maybe even higher. Currently at the Snyder County Prison, between 20 to 25 inmates daily are housed at the prison from other counties. There are also about 12 U.S. Marshall inmates at the prison daily. Bickhart says last year, the cost per inmate was $63.49 a day, with an average daily of 103 inmates at the Snyder County Prison.
