Richard Arreola, Director of Human Resources
Born in 1970 Hollister, Calif. to a farm worker family, Richard Arreola
performed fieldwork as a child.
He graduated from Hollister High School in 1988 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in human resource management with a minor in political science from California State University, San Jose.
From 1994 to 1998, he was a merchandise manager at JC Penney stores in Salinas and Visalia, Calif.
managed and maintained company merchandise systems and processes; interviewed, screened, evaluated and hired candidates; counseled employees on work-related problems; and provided supervision to 20 personnel.
For the next two years he was a branch manager and office supervisor with Manpower Staffing Services in Hollister.
responsibilities covered operation, overall sales and profitability of the office.
supervised four internal and more than 100 temporary employees; interviewed, screened and hired; prepared weekly reports on productivity and sales for upper management; conducted new-hire orientations; counseled, disciplined and terminated workers; and handled workers' compensation cases.
Between 2000 and 2002, Arreola was senior staffing supervisor with Working Partnerships Staffing Services in San Jose, accomplishing much the same tasks.
Arreola began working with the farm workers' movement as a recruiter in 2002.
In January 2003, he became human resources manager for the entire movement out of its La Paz, Keene, Calif. headquarters.
