The Lancaster City Council voted unanimously to name Ric-key C. Childers as city manager.Mr. Childers began his new posi-tion April 2.He
was named the lone finalist from an applicant pool of 38 candidates.Following his selection as a finalist, he served as a consultant to the city.Mr. Childers received his Bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Tulsa and his Master's degree in public administration from Texas Tech University. He began his career in local government with the City of Abilene as a neighborhood coordinator in 1975.Since that time he has served as assistant to the city manager in Lubbock, assistant city manager in Abilene and Carrollton and deputy city manager in Arlington.A native Texan, he most recently served as city manager in Longview from 1999 through October 2006 where he has since served as a consultant.
many accomplishments and awards includes the Joy Sansom Mentor Award from the Urban Management Assistants of North Texas, the Texas Young Lawyer's Award and Outstanding Alumni Award from Texas Tech University
. Mr. Childers is a member of the International City Man-agement Association (ICMA), the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) and the Texas City Man-agement Association (TCMA) of which he is the immediate past president.
