While literature provides some support for the PPP hypothesis in the mid to long run time frames (Dornbusch, R., 1980; Enders and Dibooglu, 2001), support for the hypothesis in the short run is especially weak.

Spring Brook Twp. -- An attentive audience of about 35 listened to Dr. Riaz Hussain, imam of a mosque on the campus of the University of Scranton where he is a professor, tell about his early life in Pakistan and his journey to the United States on a Fulbright Scholarship in 1960.
His lecture, What is Islam?, on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Spring Brook Fire Company Social Hall was sponsored by the North Pocono Cultural Society (NPCS). His community mosque is one that serves about 150 Muslim families in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties.
Dr. Hussain noted that Islam is the second largest religion in the world and follows the values or tenets of the Koran, the book of sacred writings revealed to the prophet Muhammad.
He explained his own role as imam, or prayer leader, and discussed the five "pillars" of Islam: the belief in one god of all humanity, prayer(s) for guidance, strength or forgiveness, fasting, charity - as the giving of gifts or knowledge or caring, and hajj (the religious duty of pilgrimage to Mecca).
Many questions were put forth by the audience and answered thoughtfully by Dr. Hussain.
