Laegreid recognized with Outstanding Adviser Award Dr. Renee Laegreid, associate professor of history, is this years recipient of the Vondrak Outstanding Adviser Award. Laegreid has been recognized for her dedication to students on a personal level. "Dr. Laegreid has always gone up and beyond for me," one student wrote. "She never, ever talked down to me; she always treated me like I was more than just a freshman student. She instantly knew how creative my mind was, and did her best to get me into any art classes, theatre classes, and even the piano lessons I had been dying to try&As an adviser, she accepted and pushed me to excellence as a student, and as a person, she accepted and pushed me to excellence as a friend. Peters said Laegreid is able to tackle serious situations with students in a spirit that is relaxed and enjoyable to students. Laegreid has a passion for American culture, history of the American West and womens history. Her work has been published in books, academic journals and encyclopedias, many of them surrounding the rodeo queens that braved the West. She teaches American and Great Plains history at HC. She received her bachelors degree in interior design from Washington State University and her Masters in American studies from Wesleyan University. She completed her Doctorate degree in history from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2002.
