At a luncheon, a panel of five local business leaders -- Terra Industries' Mike Bennett, BPI Inc.'s Regina Roth, State Steel's Dave Bernstein and Badger Holdings' Bob Burnett -- offered the delegates advice and shared ideas for making smaller communities attractive to younger professionals.
Roth said it's probably not possible to completely stop the out-migration of young graduates, since many have a "curiosity'' about other parts of the country and believe that "maybe the grass is greener'' somewhere else. She mentioned how her own son, an engineer, after working and living in the Boston area, recently returned to Siouxland to join the family business, which specializes in the production of boneless lean beef. It takes the right career opportunities for other young professionals to stay or locate here, she said.
