Rebecca Rutsky,Member, NACAC, Southern ACAC
...Rebecca "Becki" Rutsky's is the college and career advisor for the Alabama School of Fine Arts (arguably the most fun gig in the public ed business) and teaches for the University of California at Los Angeles's College Counseling Certificate program. She has worked in web communications for the University of Virginia, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the private sector before growing thoroughly bored and changing careers.She taught writing and did test prep before becoming a certified school counselor and directing college and career advising for a suburban public school district.
In 2005, she
edited the first edition of NACAC
's Fundamentals of College Admission Counseling textbook, for which she
received the 2006 Margaret Addis Service Award from NACAC. She serves as webmaster and board member for the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling, Her organizational, presentation, and web consulting skills are often in demand by school districts, college access groups, and other nonprofit organizations.
Some of her
academic accolades include being named: National Endowment for the Humanities Younger Scholar, Beinecke Scholar, Jacob K. Javits Fellow, and Mellon Fellow in Humanistic Studies.
