Paint a country snow scene step-by-step with Becky Pashia!
Instructor: Rebecca Pashia
Rebecca Pashia is a founder and permanent artist of ARTichokes. She was introduced to painting in high school, where her first painting, an acrylic still life of an artichoke and lemons, received the "Best of Show" and "Purchase Award" for the district art competition. After earning a degree in Interior Design from Kansas State University and taking extra art and business courses, Rebecca began her own business, Motif, which specializes in custom oil paintings to enhance interiors.
Today, Rebecca's paintings are mainly large abstracts and landscapes. She paints the atmosphere surrounding the landscape, as well as simply the land forms, giving her paintings a moody and layered appearance. She often begins working from a photo, but can never quite stick to it. Eventually, her paintbrush and palette knife lead her on their own creative path. Her paintings have a peaceful, spiritual nature, where the viewer can't help but take a deep breath and get lost in the canvas for a moment.
Rebecca has shown her paintings in numerous shows around Kansas City, and has created many commissioned pieces for businesses and residents. More of her paintings can be seen at

Painting Demonstration by Rebecca Pashia, owner of ARTichokes
This interactive event will begin with a brainstorming exercise where every participant contributes to a unique painting for your company. From this exercise a theme and composition will be cultivated. Next, witness the creative process as Rebecca Pashia demonstrates her oil painting technique, from start to finish, incorporating your group's ideas. As she paints, Rebecca will discuss elements of an abstract painting and how it relates in all aspects of life.

Our building is a secure building, so call Becky at (913) 638-7929 to make an appointment to see the studio space.
Rebecca (Becky) painted for the first time in Eleventh grade. She had recently moved to Kansas City and her high school accidentally put Art 101 on her schedule - although she had not signed up for it. She went to class on the first day and was intrigued when the teacher asked the students to bring their favorite food to class the next day. Photograph and paint her favorite food? Becky brought an artichoke and gave it a try. Her painting, Artichoke and Lemons, won multiple district awards and the Purchase Award, which meant her high school bought the piece for $150. She has been painting ever since.
The ARTichokes concept is about trying something "outside the box". What if you are really good at something that you've never even tried? Becky believes that every person has an inner artist begging to show him or herself. This company provides a positive platform where it is fun to experiment with color and explore creativity.
A change in ownership: In January 2011, Becky and Laurie started a new company, Wet Canvas LLC, and continued the ARTichokes business under that name.

ARTichokes: About The Company, 30 Nov 2012 [cached]
Megan Sutherland, Jackie Warren, Laurie Barling, and resident artist, Rebecca Pashia, all deserve credit for making this unique dream come true!
In January 2011, the two sisters Rebecca Pashia & Laurie Barling started their own corporation, WET CANVAS, and took over ownership of ARTichokes.
Rebecca is the creative mind behind the concept and also a professional artist with her studio on-site.
Who is Rebecca Pashia? Rebecca has had her own art business, Motif, for 20 years, creating original paintings for homes and businesses. She has also been dedicated to encouraging creativity in children through her Scribble Shop project, which brings all the visual and fine arts together, and has written many children stories. Samples of her paintings can be seen on the ARTISTS page.
The painting won the Purchase Award at Shawnee Mission East and inspired Rebecca to keep painting.
