of the announcement
Superintendent Rebecca Harbaugh said that she informed the school board of her pending retirement in January 2015 at last week's study session.
"I'm not going anywhere else.
I have been thinking about retirement for awhile and just decided that the timing would be right for me." said Harbaugh
, "I wanted to give the board plenty of time to find a replacement for me and to make a transition as smooth as possible."

was appointed by the board to replace Daniel Trimmer who retired.
Prior to that appointment Harbaugh had been the district's assistant superintendent since 2006.
Harbaugh received her bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1981 from Shippensburg University; a certification in secondary mathematics from the California University of PA in 1984; and her master's in school administration from Western Maryland College in 1990.
Prior to her
employment with Conewago Valley, from 1981 to 1984 Harbaugh
had been a day-to-day substitute and a long term substitute teacher for Upper St Clair School District
, South Fayette School District
, and Allegheny Intermediate Unit.
From 1984 to 1985 Harbaugh taught grade 7 - 12 Mathematics at South Fayette; and from 1985 to 1991 Harbaugh was an 8th grade math teacher at Gettysburg Area School District.

and during the school year of 1995-96 took over the reins as acting principal.
In 1997 until 2004 Harbaugh was the principal of Conewago Township Elementary School, leaving that position to become principal of the Conewago Valley Intermediate School from 2004 to 2006.
In 1998 Harbaugh also took on the challenge of being an adjunct professor teaching Mathematics at York College.
Harbaugh received her doctorate of education from Immaculata University in 2006.
As for the retirement of Harbaugh
, said Baker, that was a real surprise to those not on the current board.
A new solicitor has not yet been appointed, said Harbaugh
, as the school board will discuss the solicitor appointment and potential applicants for the superintendent position at future meetings.
