"The Diocesan Poverty Relief Fund allows the diocese to respond to requests for assistance from a wide range of qualifying organizations," he said, including groups that provide material assistance to people in need.
Diocesan Poverty Relief Fund grants will only go to groups that have values consistent with the ethical, religious, moral beliefs, tenets and teachings of the Catholic Church and that do not promote in any way activities that violate the dignity of the human person, Msgr. Riffle said.

"In 2010, we'll be celebrating 100 years as a parish," he said. "We want to start the next 100 years with a clean slate."
And the elimination of parish debt will free up funds to hire a full-time youth minister.
"I feel that we are literally in a battle for the minds and hearts of our children," Msgr. Riffle said. "The culture is pulling them in every which direction, and we really need to provide for them solid faith formation as well as youth ministry opportunities to enable them to inculcate their faith and live it," he said.
