Raymond OsnatoRaymond Osnato
(Music Director) When Raymond Osnato announced to his
parents that he
intended to become a professional musician, they foresaw their young son as a lonely, middle-aged pauper raddled by long nights in mephitic gin mills looking forward to an early demise accelerated by the effects the consumption of ardent spirits and controlled substances would have on his
ravaged constitution.As usual, Raymond
paid little attention to his parents and went on to study piano with Robert Goldsand, composition with Raoul Pleskow and conducting with Joseph Rosenstock.
As a former Music Director for the GASLOCOLI
(1990-1997 & 2000), Mr. Osnato
performed a large handful of operettas with the company and prepared new performing editions of H.M.S. Pinafore and The Grand Duke, which received its Long Island premiere under his
baton. He also founded the GASLOCOLI Orchestra, an ensemble which was highly praised by Newsday as one of the best of its kind. In addition to his Gilbert & Sullivan experience, Raymond has conducted regional orchestras and opera companies in the United States and served as a staff conductor for the CBC. ,My parents may have been right,, says Mr. Osnato, ,and I may indeed be heading to hell in a handbasket.
But the descent has been gradual, and not without its satisfactions.,
