Raul Petrasanta, who, like Purisima, had been embroiled in a case before the Ombudsman and had also been placed under suspension, Lacson said it's all up to the President to decide who to name as the new PNP chief.
Petrasanta, widely perceived to be among the strong contenders to the post, was former regional director for Central Luzon and was placed under preventive suspension by the Ombudsman for the disappearance of more than a thousand AK-47 assault rifles, believed to have been sold to the New People's Army (NPA). His suspension along with 10 other PNP officers implicated in the case had recently lapsed and were back on duty since June 10.
