Randi Peters
Randi grew up in Marshalltown, and attended the University of Iowa after high school. In 1976 she moved to Dubuque with her husband Steve, and infant daughter Kate. Six years later the family, which by this time included three more children - Michelle, Joseph and Lindsay - moved to Ames when Steve took a job as Director of the Iowa State Center. A year later their fifth child, Toby, was born and Randi became a stay-at-home mom for a few years to raise the children. Eventually Randi returned to school, this time to Iowa State, to earn a degree in social work. After a four-year relocation to Eden Prairie, Minn., they returned to Ames in 1994, and in 1996 Randi and Steve formed their own company to provide management services for arenas, theatres and convention centers. Today that company - VenuWorks - provides management to more than 40 venues in eleven states across the US.
Today the children are spread out across the country form Minnesota to New York City. With three grandsons and one granddaughter, Randi and Steve keep busy just trying to make the rounds to see everyone. Randi is involved in many community organizations. She is past President of the Ames League of Women Voters, a past Co-President of the Coalition for Disaster Recovery and has also served as a Loaned Executive for the Story County United Way. She sits on the boards of Youth and Shelter Services and Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa. Randi is very involved in church activities as a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church. She also serves on the Chamber Education Committee and Government Affairs Committee.
