According to a memorandum of understanding (MoA) signed on Monday in Dar es Salaam between NEEC Executive Secretary, Beng'i Issa and the NSSF Director General, Dr Ramadhani Dau, the loans will help the bodaboda drivers to own the motorcycles rather than drive for someone else. "The motorcycles belong to other people who keep the profits... we want these ambitious youth to get soft loans and buy their own motorcycles and expand their businesses," he said. "This is our strategy for creating jobs for the Dar es Salaam youth," he said. Dr Dau said NSSF has committed the three billion to the bodaboda empowerment scheme and urged youth in the city to enroll to the fund and receive secure soft loans from DABOSA. "Borrowers must repay per set schedule if they want the scheme to be sustainable," he warned. "They also can join NSSF to enjoy other benefits offered by the fund," he added. On his part, Beng'i said according to the agreement, DABOSA will repay NSSF 9.32 per cent and borrowers will repay DABOSA at 12.3 per cent. "The city bodaboda scheme is part of a joint NEEC-NSSF national programme for empowerment of Tanzanians," he said.
