Carnival chairman Ralph Spours said: "The controls on Ford Park are such that we have to have a very high proportion of stewards and we simply cannot get enough to manage it.
"This is partly because of the football as England are playing at 4pm.
"The usual clubs that we are able to draw upon just cannot provide us with the necessary cover and the safety and the well-being of the children and visitors is paramount."Mr Spours
said the dancing schools thought the alternative proposal to use Buxton Place was unworkable and Glaxo's
sports field was too far out of town.
