The acting Windermere police chief, Ralph Groover, has suspended Windermere reserve police Officer Gregory Fields, and the State Attorney's Office today charged Fields with misdemeanor battery. "I have relieved him of his duties today as Windermere Police Officer pending administrative review," e-mailed Groover, is an Orange County sheriff's captain.

Orange sheriff's Capt. Ralph Groover, 51, has more than 3 decades of experience.
Ralph Groover, 51, will serve as chief indefinitely, the Sheriff's Office said. He currently commands the traffic unit. Groover was appointed to replace the current chief, Daniel Saylor, 44, who was arrested this morning and is in the Orange County Jail. Groover has a master's degree in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a master's of science in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College, according to the newspaper article.
